It was a happy reunion of sorts for the team of Cannes festival winner, Masaan, Richa Chadha and debutants Neeraj Ghaywan (director), Vicky Kaushal (actor) who worked on Anurag Kashyap’s critically acclaimed Gangs of Wasseypur. The GOW actor Richa Chadha will be seen in the pivotal in Masaan. The debutant director Neeraj Ghaywan and the newcomer Vicky Kaushal are also former assistant directors of Anurag Kashyap on GOW. Neeraj has often quoted that assisting on GOW was like going to a filmmaking school.
By virtue of having been mentored by the same hand (Anurag), the level of ease and understanding among the duo was at its best right from the outset. Interestingly, the lyricist of famous songs of GOW ‘Womaniya’ and ‘Kala Re’, the IIT graduate Varun Grover, has written Masaan and also penned songs in the film including ‘Mann Kasturi’ which is sung by Indian Ocean band.
The GOW director Anurag Kashyap is one of the producers (Phantom Films) of Masaan along with Manish Mundra (Drishyam Films) and Guneet Monga (who is also associated with GOW and Masaan). Apart from that following people worked on both the films are the actor, Pankaj Tripathi, the famous action director Sham Kaushal, editor Nitin Baid, Karuna Dutt (AD), Shrikant Desai (make up).
And if the critical appreciation received by the film especially in Cannes where it won FIPRESCI and the Promising Future awards in the Un Certain Regard Section is anything to go by, one can say that the long friendship shared by the team has successfully translated onscreen as well. Most happy with the achievement of his wards is Anurag Kashyap whose company Phantom films is one of the co-producers. Says Anurag, "It's good to see my brightest first timers not wasting anytime to go out there and make a brilliant first film. There is a lesson there for all of us. I am very proud of Neeraj as a director and Vicky as actors.”
The film which has been produced by Manish Mundra(Drishyam Films), Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane & Anurag Kashyap (Phantom Films), Melita Toscan du Plantier & Marie-Jeanne Pascal, (Macassar Productions) and Guneet Monga & Shaan Vyas (Sikhya Entertainment) will officially open in theaters across India on 24th July 2015.

About the Director - Neeraj Ghaywan:
Neeraj has been the erstwhile assistant of Anurag Kashyap, and has worked with him on Gangs of Wasseypur and Ugly. A Marketing professional, he left his job to work in films with Anurag five years back.
