director Raam Reddy gets felicitated by CM Karnatake Siddaramaiah on returning to his hometown Bangalore

Mumbai, August 27, 2015: After returning from Locarno with two awards for his debut Kannada language film, Thithi, Bangalore based filmmaker Raam Reddy received an enthusiastic and warm reception from the Department of Information and Public Relations which immediately organised a meeting with the Honorable CM Sri Siddaramaiah in his residence yesterday.



The film which premièred at the Locarno International Film Festival, 2015 won two top awards on Independence Day–Pardo d’oro Cineasti Del Presente Premio Nescens”  (Golden Leopard, Filmmakers of the Present Competition) and “Swatch First Feature Award" for the best first feature in the entire festival. Raam was invited to the Honorable Chief Minister's residence where he had a brief but warm meeting with Sri Siddaramaiah and was felicitated by him with a shawl, a garland and a bouquet of flowers.The Honourable CM congratulated Raam for making the state proud by winning such prestigious international awards.

The 26-year-old filmmaker who is overwhelmed by the very warm reception he got by the state and the Honorable Chief Minister says, "Meeting the Chief Minister yesterday was an incredibly humbling moment - and perhaps the most encouraging moment in this journey thus far. His words of support and congratulations will remain with me as I continue my artistic pursuits; they will push me to continue work hard, but most importantly to stay honest to my inner creativity with the same idealism with which my team and I approached the making of THITHI."

Reportedly, a Kannada film called Samskara by Pattabhirama Reddy won a Special Mention Bronze Leopard at Locarno International Film Festival in 1972. It was the last time a Kannada film was awarded at a top international festival.
