Honorable Media, It gives me immense pleasure to announce the commencement of the 8th State Level Paralympic Swimming Championship for swimmers from all over Maharashtra on 2nd October, 2013 at Andheri Sports Complex. This event is only meant for the Locomotion Impaired and visually impaired swimmers.
I would like to kindly request print / television media, to cover this state championship, which would only highlight the achievement of this disabled swimmers but also be motivational to other physically challenged swimmers to come out & try out this sport.
A short brief about PSAM is mentioned below -
PSAM (formally known as The Swimming Association of Maharashtra for Disable) has been formed in 2004 to encourage the development of Olympic spirit among physically challenged sports persons.
PSAM is affiliated to Paralympic Swimming Federation of India and Maharashtra state Paralympic Association which is a recognized national level apex institution affiliated to Paralympic Committee of India which is recognized apex institution for Para sports by the ministry of Sports and Youth affairs, Government of India.
PSAM has successfully conducted State Championship every year since 2005 and three time National Championship so far.
The Association core team constitutes of Paralympic swimmers themselves who have won many National & International Medals.
PSAM is making effort to improve the standard of Para Swimming amongst the physically challenged sports persons to bring the swimming event on national as well as international standard.
ACHEIVEMENTS
In 2012 National Swimming Championship which was held in Chennai, the Maharashtra team won 24 Gold, 14 Silvers, 18 Bronze and 6 Individual Championship in various category. And with that count we are the 1St runner up in the 12th National Paralympic Championship.
PSAM has produced many International Para Swimmers from different districts of Maharashtra. Few names are Suyash Jadhav (Solapur), Chetan Raut & Kanchanmala Pande (Amravati), Hansraj Patil (Nashik) and Kanchan Chaudhary (Jalgaon).
