DUJ strongly condemns the increasing incidents of attacks on journalists

The Delhi Union of Journalists strongly condemns the increasing incidents of attacks on journalists and the freedom of the press. In the latest instance, senior journalist Siddharth Varadarajan was gheraoed by activists of the ABVP at the Allahabad University where he had gone to deliver a lecture on January 20 at the invitation of the Allahabad University Students Union. He was not allowed to speak and had to return.

In another instance, on the following day another journalist Revati Laul, who is writing a book on those convicted in the Naroda Patia riots in Gujarat was slapped and punched by a convict who was out on parole, whom she had gone to interview.

Both these incidents point out the rising levels of intolerance in the country. The DUJ calls upon the entire journalist fraternity to rise in protest against and condemn such increasing attacks on the press.
